The Baymeadows corridor of the city is a centered stretch of commerce, institution, and residence, in close proximity to surrounding neighborhoods in all four directions. Marked by same-name Baymeadows Road (SR 152), the area is a cultural diversity pot, running 6.4 miles through main connectors Philips Highway (US 1), Southside Boulevard (SR 115), San Jose Boulevard (SR 13) and locally designated SR 9A (I-295). Part of the growing Southside, or South Jacksonville, one of the largest sections in the city, it comprises several single-family subdivisions, upscale condominiums, and apartment units in a live-work-play part of town.  It functions as a heavily dense suburban area, and its short commute to relevant city hots spots, makes it ideal.

The streetscape is lush and well-maintained, by way of the ‘Keep Jacksonville Beautiful’ grassroots commission.  A drive immediately to the east of 9A is anchored by a suburban utopian setting of housing complexes, with several currently  underway.  And to the right, large shopping plazas for all your daily needs, including Publix groceries and one of just two Native Sun Natural Foods Market in the city.

Popular choices for living along the stretch include premier private Deerwood Country Club, Deercreek Country Club, both noted for exceptional golf courses;  900-unit East Hampton community; newly established South Chase; Hampton Glen; and Reedy Branch Plantation. Recreation is plentiful in each, and the area as a whole. The 9A/Baymeadows Regional Park offers community athletic and play space on 29.9 acres, with picnic facilities and a trail.  A fairly new venture by volunteer citizens, collectively ‘Baywatch’, future phases will include baseball fields, a fishing pier, and tennis courts.  A new multi-level gymnasium is coming Fall 2012 near the Jacksonville Country Day School, a top ranking private school on Baymeadows.  Other schools in this neighborhood rank highly as well; Atlantic Coast High School opened in 2010 and is a “school of the future” for its focus on technology and modern design.  Additionally, Twin Lakes Elementary and Middle schools are both ‘A’ schools.

Several points of interest are along Baymeadows, with others sitting some few miles away.  Florida State College at Jacksonville’s Deerwood Center campus anchors one corner, with the Deerwood Village Mall adjacent to it; The University of North Florida is close by and a contributing factor in residential growth; Desirable shopping at the St. Johns Town Center and 1.1 million-square-foot The Avenues is each minutes away; Known for its worldly eateries and markets, from Indian, Thai, European, Middle Eastern, and Hispanic, the compact area is one of the best places to dine in the city. Superior medical services at both Mayo Clinic and St. Lukes Hospital are just ten minutes away, with a branch of Baptist Health directly on the stretch.

The area is rich economically. Major tenants and employers include Convergys Corporation, State Farm, The Art Institute of Jacksonville, Florida Coastal School of Law, and Chase Bank. A significant portion of automobile gridlock in the corridor is a direct result of these major employment centers and their roadway network. Main business districts include Baymeadows Center and Freedom Commerce Center.

Baymeadows is in the midst of an organic makeover, with affordable residential and commercial leasing rates combining to make the area a potential epicenter for those looking for new opportunities in Jacksonville’s Southside.
